What genuinely dates a Burberry is the label itself — the house has renamed and re-logoed itself on the record: “Burberrys” until 1999, “Burberry London” with the knight until 2017, all-caps “BURBERRY LONDON ENGLAND” from 2018, and the knight back with a serif logo from 2023.

Where to find it on the item
Bags: a leather tab inside the main zip pocket, with the code stamped directly into the leather — never a stuck-on label — or a metal plaque. Trench coats: inside the storm-flap pocket beside the care instructions. Clothing: the reverse of the care label at the inner back collar. Watches: the caseback; sunglasses: inside a temple arm. Do Burberry bags have serial numbers?
Not unique ones. Modern pieces carry an 8-digit article number identifying the style and colourway — thousands of genuine items share it. Some eras used other codes, and many vintage pieces carry none at all.
Can a Burberry number be dated?
