Chanel Serial Number Checker
From 1986 to April 2021, every Chanel bag shipped with a serial sticker inside and a matching card: seven digits until 2004, eight after. Chanel never encoded an exact date — but the first one or two digits of the serial select a production window, usually a year or two wide, and that window is what this checker returns.
From April 2021 Chanel replaced the sticker and card with an embedded microchip and a metal plate, so a recent bag with no sticker is exactly what it should be.

How to read it
Seven-digit serials (1986–2004) are read from the first digit; eight-digit serials (2005–2021) from the first two. The result is a window, not a month — Chanel's series simply don't resolve finer than that, and any tool that returns an exact month for a Chanel serial is inventing it.

Where to find it on the item
The white serial sticker sits inside the bag — on classic flaps usually on the lining near the bottom left, on other styles inside a pocket. It carries Chanel's over-print and, on later series, holographic elements. The matching card is embossed with the same number; a card that differs from the sticker is a red flag on its own.

Chanel serial number questions
Does the Chanel serial give an exact year?
No — a window, usually a year or two wide. The series simply don't resolve finer, which is why this checker returns windows instead of pretending to more precision.
My Chanel has no serial sticker — is it fake?
If it was made from April 2021 onward, a missing sticker is correct: Chanel moved to an embedded microchip and a metal plate. On older bags, stickers do peel and fall — a missing sticker alone is not a verdict either way.
Does a valid serial prove the bag is authentic?
No. Counterfeiters print correctly-formatted serials and matching cards. The serial rules out crude fakes only — leather, stitching, hardware and stamping settle authenticity.
The card number differs from the sticker — what does that mean?
On a genuine bag they always match. A mismatch means the card belongs to another bag or the piece is counterfeit — treat it as a serious red flag.
Can I read the microchip myself?
No — the chip answers only to Chanel's own devices in boutiques. Consumer NFC readers can at best detect that something is there.
Where is the serial sticker located?
Inside the bag — on classic flaps typically on the lower lining, on other models inside a pocket. It is white, over-printed, and on later series carries holographic elements.
Does an older window make the bag less valuable?
Not necessarily — sought-after vintage series can carry a premium. The window mostly helps confirm the bag's story matches its parts; value is set by model, condition and demand.
