Coach Serial Number Checker
Coach stamps its serial into the creed — the leather patch inside the bag. From 1994 to about 2014 the layout reads like a date: a month letter (A=January through M=December, skipping I), one or two year digits, a plant letter, then the style number. K8P-9870 is October 1998, style 9870. Before 1994 the number is a registration with no date key, and later creeds dropped the key again.

One catch the checker handles honestly: a single zero year digit was used around 2000 AND again from 2004 — a code like A0A-1234 legitimately reads January 2000 or January 2004+, so both readings are shown and the bag's style settles it.
| Creed | Era | Reads |
|---|---|---|
| 6–8 digits only | Before 1994 | registration number — no date key |
| Month letter + year digit(s) + plant + style | 1994 – ~2014 | month and year, to the month |
| Long creed, no key | Later production | identification only |
Where to find it on the item
Stitched into the creed patch inside the main compartment. Genuine creeds are cleanly debossed with even, straight lines of text — sloppy stamping or a glued patch outweighs any number.

Worked examples
Reading K8P-9870
K is the 10th usable letter → October; 8 → 1998; P is the plant; 9870 the style. October 1998.
Reading A0A-1234
The zero year digit is genuinely ambiguous: January 2000 or January 2004-onward — the checker shows both and the style number resolves it.
Reading 0987654
Digits only: a pre-1994 registration number. Genuine, but it carries no date to decode.
Coach serial number questions
Why does my Coach code give two dates?
A single zero year digit was used around 2000 and again from 2004 — genuinely ambiguous, so the checker shows both readings and lets the style settle it.
Why does the month skip the letter I?
Coach skipped I to avoid confusion with the digit 1 — so J is September, K October, L November, M December.
My vintage Coach creed is digits only — fake?
No — before 1994 the creed carried a registration number with no date key. Judge those by leather, stitching and hardware.
Does a correct creed prove authenticity?
No — the creed's stamping quality tells more than its content: genuine text is deep, even and straight. Fakes get the leather and glue wrong before they get the code wrong.
What does the plant letter mean?
The factory that made the bag. Coach publishes no plant registry — the letter verifies the layout rather than naming a place.
Does the date change the value?
Vintage 1990s Coach in good leather carries a following of its own. Model, condition and leather quality set the price — see the live Coach pieces below.
