TAG Heuer Serial Number Checker

A modern TAG Heuer caseback carries two codes, and buyers routinely confuse them. The reference — letters then digits, often with a dotted suffix such as WAY2110.BA0910 — is the model: the first letters place it in a collection (WAY and WBP are Aquaracer, CBN and WBN Carrera, CAZ Formula 1, CBL and CW Monaco, SBG Connected), and the suffix names the bracelet (BA steel, FT rubber, FC leather). The serial is the shorter code engraved beneath it, two or three letters and three or four digits, unique to your watch.

What TAG Heuer does not publish is a serial-to-year table. A serial identifies the watch for the brand's own records, warranty and service history; it does not encode a production date, and the only serials that date at all are the all-digit numbers of pre-1985 Heuer production, which collector charts place only roughly. This checker reads the reference, recognises the serial, and stops where the published record stops.

How to read it

Type the reference with its dot, or the serial on its own. The checker tells you which one you typed, names the collection and bracelet from the reference, and flags the serial as identification. Where letters and digits fit both shapes it says so rather than guessing.

MarkingWhat it gives
WAY2110.BA0910 (letters + digits . letters + 4 digits)reference — collection, dial/movement variant, bracelet
CBN2A1B (letters + digits, no suffix)reference on newer papers and casebacks, same reading
2–3 letters + 3–4 digits under the referencecaseback serial — identification, no published date
5–7 digits onlypre-1985 Heuer serial — rough collector placement only

Where to find it on the item

Both codes are engraved on the caseback: the reference on one line, the serial below it. Connected models repeat them on the caseback and in the watch's settings screen. The warranty card and the MyTAGHeuer registration quote the same serial, so the three should agree — a caseback serial that differs from the card is the first thing to question.

Worked examples

Reading WAY2110.BA0910

WAY2110.BA0910

WAY places it in the Aquaracer collection; the .BA suffix is a steel bracelet. This is the model reference — every Aquaracer of this variant shares it.

Reading CBN2A1B.BA0643

CBN2A1B.BA0643

CBN is Carrera — the current Calibre Heuer 02 chronograph references use it — on a steel bracelet.

Reading RUJ2842

RUJ2842

Three letters and four digits with no collection prefix: the caseback serial. It identifies the watch for TAG Heuer's records — it does not encode a year, and no tool can read one from it.

TAG Heuer serial number questions

Can I check a TAG Heuer serial number online?

Not against TAG Heuer's own records — the brand keeps no public lookup. This checker reads the format and the reference; TAG Heuer itself confirms a serial through an authorised dealer or service centre, and the MyTAGHeuer registration ties the serial to your warranty.

Does the serial tell me the year?

No. TAG Heuer publishes no serial-to-year table, so any site that returns a year from a modern serial is inventing it. The reference's production years, the warranty card date and service records date the watch.

What is the difference between the reference and the serial?

The reference (WAY2110.BA0910) is the model — shared by every watch of that variant. The serial is the shorter code beneath it, unique to your watch. Sellers who quote only a reference have not given you a serial.

My watch says Heuer, not TAG Heuer, with a numeric serial

Pre-1985 production, before TAG acquired Heuer. Those all-digit serials are placed only roughly by collector charts; the reference and the movement inside date a vintage Heuer far better than the serial.

Does a valid serial prove the watch is genuine?

No — counterfeiters engrave well-formed references and serials, sometimes copied from a real watch. Case finishing, dial printing, lume, the movement and the weight decide; a serial that matches the warranty card and TAG Heuer's records is consistent, not conclusive.

Does the collection move the value?

Yes — Monaco and Carrera chronographs with in-house calibres hold value best, Formula 1 quartz sits at the entry level. Condition, box and papers move each one further; the live pieces below show current UAE asking prices.
