The Price of Fashion Entertainment: How Can We Change The Game?

In this day and age, here’s a clear-cut fact: Fashion has evolved into a realm of spectacle rather than ownership, evolving into online moments to engage with!

Television shows, movies and music are no longer merely creative outlets; they are now channels for fashion to the point where, in some instances, fashion is what inspires the “creativity” of entertainment. Instead of simply connecting talent, fashion and entertainment are increasingly focusing on interacting with material. Even the lives of fashion powerhouses serve as sources of inspiration for literary works, films and television programs. The life of Coco Chanel, for instance, has now been transformed into a number of major motion pictures. However, similar to any other form of entertainment, we swiftly lose interest and move onto the next trend, which poses a significant challenge. And the environmental impact that follows? Let’s not even get to it!

This is mainly why the fashion industry is on the brink of a major transformation! No longer are designers solely chasing the elusive goal of going viral, they’re clasping their creative flair and returning to the essence of fashion – the craftsmanship, the attention to detail and the beauty of a well-made garment.

The Hunt for Sustainable Fashion
What a welcome change to the industry which is finally returning to its roots! Stemming from a response to growing consumer awareness of the environmental impact of fashion and the urgency to change, word has it that a sustainability shift is here to stay. It’s time to invest in high-quality pieces that will stay stylish for years to come, and to support brands that champion sustainability. Let’s celebrate fashion that is both breathtaking and responsible!
Chasing Authenticity

While social media may dominate our world, people are now demanding more real and genuine experiences. Gen Z, who account for most spending power, are seeking TLC-made clothes, rather than just for the sake of viral fashion marketing, believing that social media has upended our perception of fashion and companies bear a responsibility to address environmental and social issues. ‘Woke’ to fashion, they’re backing their beliefs by casting aside the virtual fronts social media brings forth and the online entertainment that tags along. And that’s yet another aspect to consider in this transition. It’s now beyond that gram it, tweet it, snap it, post it kinda thing!

From the recent Met Gala to the Oscars, it’s crystal clear: it’s all about the timeless allure of classic designs. And why is that? Not only does this phenomenon tend to reflect conscious social changes, but it also brings to light the history meshed with every craft.

The dress code for the 2022 Met Gala was formal white-tie attire, and the event’s theme revolved around Gilded Glamour.

The Chief Editor of American Vogue Anna Wintour fully embraced the theme by wearing an extravagant Chanel gown inspired by the brand’s spring 2022 couture collection. It featured a figure-hugging silhouette and was adorned with sparkling sequins in a variety of soft, pastel shades. She completed her outfit by adding a fluffy feather jacket and custom Manolo Blahnik heels.

In the realm of the fashion spectacle, where all A-listers are competing to be shooting at the top of the list with their attires, Wintour’s royal chic moment deserted the amusement and came after she paid tribute to her late friend Vogue colleague and fashion paragon André Leon Talley, who recently passed away.

And the Met Gala 2023 is surely following suit! Celebrities will credit Karl Lagerfeld with a theme called “A Line of Beauty”. The dress code for the event is “in honor of Karl” and guests can choose from Lagerfeld’s archive at Chanel, Fendi, Chloé, Balmain, Patou, and his own brand. So they will be honoring the authentic craftsmanship of designers who pour their hearts and souls into every stitch.

Changing Negative Patterns of Fashion Consumerism

As shoppers, we also have the power to shape the fashion industry by choosing to support sustainable and authentic fashion. By positively changing fashion consumerism, opting for classic designs and investing in high-quality pieces, we can help shift the industry away from fast fashion trends and towards a more sustainable future.

This changeover should have happened sooner or later, to forge a greater emphasis on both fashion sustainability and authenticity and designers’ talents and creativity alike. As consumers, we should also be held accountable and bear social and environmental responsibility in fashion. Let’s create a brighter future for the industry by rethinking our shopping habits!
